Fall has always been one of my favorite times of the year. When I lived in Upstate New York, getting out with my camera in the crisp (but still fairly warm) weather to explore and enjoy the glorious fall colors made me the happiest girl in the world! The trees were bright shades of reds, oranges, and yellows - so beautiful! vibrant fall colorsvibrant fall colors

While back east is having sunny, warmer days, we have cool, rainy days. The colors are different as well. You can still see red and yellow in the landscape, but the red is at ground level, from the fireweed changing colors instead of the leaves on the trees. The leaves have turned yellow, but they are a more subtle shade rather than the vibrant colors I had seen in NY. Still gorgeous, but in a different way.

In the middle of the downpours, I've still managed to find a few times to get out and capture some beautiful shots for you. Enjoy! Seward Hwy scenery 2Fireweed in the FallThe 'Reds' fireweed colorsfireweed Green to Yellow to Red fireweed colorsfireweed colors

Winter https://alaskagirlphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/2/winter Winter is settling in to stay. Most days I hear the snow come sliding off the roof, crashing onto the berm in back of the house. That berm is so high that my husband has to keep shoveling off so it won't be all the way up on the roof. Snow is not something we lack here in Seward, AK. But even with the snow that keeps us cooped up and restless so many days, I'm grateful for the variety of weather conditions we have here. There are a few warm days (in the 30's!) with lots of rain; bright, sunny, cold days (below zero at times); and calm ones where the snowflakes just flutter down like they're only purpose is to create the stunning blanket of white to make things beautiful again after all the rain and slush.

Yep, cabin fever sets in sometimes as well, but that just means it's time to take a drive to take some pictures. I'm so blessed to live in a place that is so unique and amazing. What are some things you do to stay busy in the wintertime? Do you live in a place with snow? Or just sunny and warm? Wherever you're at and whatever you're doing, remember to take the time to stop and enjoy the beauty around you. Have a wonderful winter!

Merry Christmas! https://alaskagirlphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2012/12/merry-christmas Can you believe it's already December? And even more unbelievable is that there are only 5 more days left till Christmas Day!! This year has flown right by! With all the hustle and bustle of lights and shopping and Christmas dinners, it's easy to forget all about the reason we even celebrate in the first place. It's a season of giving, but do we stop to remember why we give gifts? The world received the best gift ever, so many years ago when a baby was born in the little town of Bethlehem. Whatever you believe, I pray for abundant peace and blessings for you and your loved ones this Christmas.

I'm also doing a weekly giveaway through the end of the year, to pass along the joy of Christmas. To enter, just 'LIKE' my Facebook page and 'SHARE' it on your page, or sign the guestbook here on my Zenfolio site and comment on this post (you can be entered twice by doing both).

Merry Christmas everyone!

Seward Holiday Fair https://alaskagirlphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2012/12/seward-holiday-fair It's December! And I'm heading out for the second day of the Seward Holiday Fair. I'm loving the chance to see so many people, visit with lots of photography enthusiasts, and make sure everyone is stocked up on their calendars, cards, and prints. I like to watch which prints people most look at and debate over (whether they'll buy it now or later, as a 8x10 or 11x14, or maybe even put a few of them in a collection of greeting cards to use thru the year). Here are a few of the best sellers:

Ice Art (this print sold out immediately)

F/V Kelsey out on the ocean

Moose Couple looking at the sign

Kodiak Cub walking in the river

Dragonfly with Personality

Daisy in Fireweed

Alaskan Cotton

Take a look for yourself and let me know which ones are your favorites! I'll put some more best sellers up after I see what people are after today. :-)  Remember, any of your photo faves would look absolutely amazing in your home, so while you're giving gifts to those you love, treat yourself to a special piece of Alaskan beauty from the Alaska Girl collection.

Christmas Festivities https://alaskagirlphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2012/11/christmas-festivities It's Christmastime, and everyone is getting excited! All the stores have their decorations up, Christmas music is playing, and people are smiling. I love the cheery, festive atmosphere! We put our tree and lights up last week, and I've been enjoying the smell of 'apple pie' and 'cranberry' candles. Yep, it's my favorite time of the year. :-)

And here's the best part - I've decided to share my 'festive' mood with all of you, my fans. I'll be giving away a variety of my products during the next few weeks, and I want you to be a part of it! Here's all you have to do: 'LIKE' my Facebook page and 'SHARE' it with your friends. Or, send me your email with your name address, and the names of a few of your favorite photos. I'll randomly select someone each week to receive something awesome!

Have an awesome day, and hope to hear from you soon!

Thanksgiving! https://alaskagirlphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2012/11/thanksgiving I look around and see so much to be thankful for in my life! Living in Alaska means cold weather outside, but I'm blessed to have a nice warm home to come back to after our adventures. Outside, I'm awed by the snow covered Alaskan mountains, especially on a clear day when the sun is setting, giving them a beautiful orange or pink glow over the pristine peaks. When my husband and I were driving to Anchorage one day, the sun was sparkling on the snow, giving the world a bright shimmering glassy look. Unfortunately, since we were in a hurry I couldn't take any good pictures, but I can't wait for more of those days when I'll be able to bring back the wonder of it all to show you.

Meanwhile, I want to thank you for taking the time to look at my photos.  I want you to be able to see a glimpse of Alaska every day in your own home.  Take a look through my albums and find your favorites.  Those pictures that make you say 'Wow!'  Trust me, they would be just perfect in 11x14 or 16x24 frames, up on your wall.  Or even a collection of four or five 8x10 prints, grouped together to make the most of an empty wall.  Most importantly, they'll brighten those winter months and make you smile every time you see them.  Those prints are the ones I want you to have.

So, as my gift to you, please enjoy a 15% discount off your order by entering the code GIVETHANKS as you check out.  *Discount is valid on orders over $10 between now and Thanksgiving Day.*

I pray you will be blessed abundantly as you reflect on those things you can be thankful for. I would love to hear what some of those things are. I'm encouraged to hear the good things in people's lives even as the papers and media share only negative news. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Winter is here! https://alaskagirlphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2012/9/winter-is-here There's a chill in the air. Yesterday we had our first frost and flurries of snow for the year, and also, our first day of sunshine in over 2 weeks. I was thrilled to get a chance to grab my camera and shoot some shots of the snow on the mountains. On one mountain, the fireweed is still a deep red, and with the snow over top, it provides a colorful view for those of us down below. A glorious full moon last night lit up the dark, and you couldn't help feeling good about life. Ah, fall going on winter is a wonderful time of year!
